June 2011 – Karlovo
Participants: Lina Gergova, Raycho Pozharliev, Elitsa Stoilova

Form 27 to 29 June a field work in another beautiful and rich in history town was carried out – Karlovo and its region. The team had conversations with the representatives of the department of culture at the Municipality of Karlovo and with the director of the Historical Museum Maria Deyanova. They discussed the regional policies toward preservation and use of the cultural heritage. The meeting with the people working at the House of Handcrafts provided an image of the development and preservation of the handcrafts in the town and region that diverted from the institutional one. Conversations with representatives of municipality, chitalishte (cultural club) and other active citizens of the villige of Enina also offered an interesting view of the way small settlements, or satellites of towns like Karlovo, also had their strategies and practices for conservation of the intangible cultural heritage as a resource for sustainable development.
